Former England captain Michael Vaughan has put the blame for England's below-par batting performance in the third Test on their scars of the second Test, where they lost by 317 runs to the hosts.
Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, England was bowled out for a meager 112 runs in just under 49 overs. Zak Crawley scored 53 runs while none of the others even crossed the 20-run mark. Vaughan, unlike himself, sees nothing wrong with the pitch on offer in Ahmedabad and believes that it was the mindset of the batsmen at fault.
Spinners Akshar Patel (6/38) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3/26) took 9 wickets in the first innings on a day one pitch. The English players mostly got out to the deliveries that did not spin enough rather than those that did something off the wicket.
According to Michael Vaughan, the current English cricket team does not have players with the right skills to play this kind of bowling attack that India possesses.
He tweeted, "It’s the non spinning deliveries that England haven’t been able to play ... Scars from the 2nd Test me thinks ... England just don’t have enough skilled players in these conditions ... #INDvENG"
