Mumbai’s prolific Suryakumar Yadav was finally rewarded for his hard work and consistent performance over the years, as the cricketer has been recently awarded a maiden India call-up for the upcoming five-match T20 International series against England at home.

The 30-year-old was overlooked for the limited-overs series in Australia last year despite his brilliant performance for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the UAE, and it left many surprised and even several former Indian cricketers criticized his non-selection.

He has been a consistent performer for MI for the last few years and played a key role in the franchise’s two back-to-back IPL title win.

The right-hander has so far played 158 T20 matches so far and scored over 3200 runs apart from 5,326 First-class runs in 77 games and 2,447 runs in 93 List-A matches.

Reacting to his maiden India call-up, Suryakumar said he is feeling proud that he is going to represent his country in the coming month against England while recalling how his parents supported him throughout his journey and it all went into his mind when he got the news of his maiden international call.

Suryakumar told India Today: “I am feeling proud that I am going to represent my country in the coming month. I think I went in the flash where everything from where I started cricket, how my parents supported me, everything started playing in my mind when I got the news yesterday.”

He signed off by saying, “And I actually came from practice, I was sitting in the room, waiting to go for a shower and that time I got the news, I was very happy. I was just sitting in one place and thinking, there were a lot of butterflies, yes.”
