Star Mumbai Indians (MI) cricketer Suryakumar Yadav was on the verge of a national call-up when Team India's squad for the series in Australia was being announced. Having delivered consistently for MI, it was tough for the Mumbaikar to not be selected for a high profile series.

He has now revealed that he went for a walk on the beach alone to get over the disappointment and decided to come back stronger.

Suryakumar had scored 512 and 424 runs for MI in IPL 2018 and IPL 2019 respectively. He had once again begun well in the IPL 2020 season and was understandably disappointed on missing out on the national call-up. However, he buckled up yet again and ended up scoring 480 runs in the season with MI lifting the IPL title yet again.

With continued strong performances for Mumbai in domestic cricket, the 30-year-old has finally earned a well-deserved call-up for the five-match T20I series against England starting from March 12 in Ahmedabad. Suryakumar has revealed what made him go back out there on the field after the drubbing and keep scoring heavily.

IND v ENG 2021: Suryakumar Yadav says 'the feeling is surreal' after maiden call-up to Team India

Suryakumar Yadav told Sports Today, "I actually went alone to the beach for the walk. I told my wife I would be back in an hour. I wanted to think, actually plan out how I would go about it in the next few matches because we had some important matches coming up in the IPL. It was important for me to turn up and win games for our team."

"I just said 'give me some time, I will just go for a walk alone and come back, you will see a wide smile on my face'," he added.

The top-order batsman received a great amount of support from his wife and MI teammates when he was down. All the support has now culminated into him getting an opportunity of wearing the Team India shirt.

"And when I came back to the (Mumbai Indians) team room, there were a lot of players sitting there and they actually came up to me and asked me to keep working hard and asked me to wait for the right time and opportunity. They told me it would come my way," Suryakumar concluded.
