Former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels that explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has as a long way to go before he can with the gloves and one good Test match behind the stumps doesn't make Pant a good wicketkeeper.

The wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has always found himself in the firing line for his wicketkeeping skills and there are lots of talks whether he should be donning the gloves for Team India, particularly with someone like Wriddhiman Saha on the bench.

However, in the second Test-match between India and England, which India won by 317 runs, Pant grabbed two stunners and effected two acrobatic stumpings.

Rishabh Pant was exceptional behind the stumps and impressed everyone with the way he kept for the likes of R Ashwin, Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav on the rank-turner.

IND v ENG 2021: "Hard work paying off for him," Virat Kohli praises Rishabh Pant for his keeping

Reflecting on Rishabh Pant’s keeping in the second Test-match, former England skipper Michael Vaugan said that biggest positive for India was Rishabh Pant’s keeping and added that India can't be the best team in the world if their wicketkeeper isn't up to the mark.

“I will be honest. I think the biggest positive for the Indian team for Rishabh's keeping. I think that had been a massive question mark over the Indian team

"Can they be the best in the world over a generation? You can't beat if your wicketkeeper is dropping the ball. That's a fact. You just can't. You need to keep a hold of the ball... stumpings, catches. Be very active behind the stumps." Michael Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

Vaughan remarked that Pant needs to keep doing it more often and catch a majority of the balls with better technique to be called a good wicketkeeper.

"We know that he's active because he's always a little bit chirpy and that's fine. But you've got to be able to catch the ball. His keeping in this game has been very, very good and that for me has been a massive positive for the Indian team.

"He needs to continue to work and get better, and catch a majority of the balls that come his way, and do it with better technique," he said.

Michael Vaughan further feels that Pant still has a long way to go in reaching the required level and said that one good Test match behind the stumps doesn't make Pant a good wicketkeeper.

"I think it's getting better all the time and he's probably doing a lot of work on the training ground - he's still got a long way to become a real, consistent keeper. One good Test match behind the stumps doesn't make you a good wicketkeeper. He's got to do it again." he concluded.

Prior to his wicketkeeping Rishabh Pant also carried on his batting purple-patch with an unbeaten 58 in the first innings.
