IND v ENG 2021: Sourav Ganguly gives update on his health; says BCCI wanted fans back

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, while providing an update on his health after the second angioplasty. also spoke about the return of international cricket in India and said that BCCI succeeded in getting the fans back in the stadium.

Sourav Ganguly, on 3rd January suffered a mild heart attack which almost shook the entire cricket fraternity. 

Ganguly was admitted in Woodlands Hospital, Kolkata where he underwent angioplasty and was under a five-day observation before getting discharged. 

However, after getting discharged, Sourav Ganguly again complained about the chest pain after 20 days and was re-admitted in the hospital where he had to undergo a second round of angioplasty on January 28 and insetred two stents in the two blocked arteries during the process.

After successful operation the BCCI president was kept under observation for 3 days and was finally discharged from the hospital on the morning of January 31. 

Reflecting on his health conditions former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said that he’s absolutely fine and is back to work. 

"I'm feeling absolutely fine. Yes, there was a bit of scare but luckily it wasn't as scary as everyone thought. I'm fit and fine and I'm back to work," Sourav Ganguly said on Star Sports.

The ongoing Test series between India and England saw the return of international cricket in the country which was commemorated by the first Test in Chennai and also witnessed the return of fans to the stadium in the second Test match. 

Addressing the same BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that BCCI wanted fans in the first Test match but they went with TNCA’s suggestion to allow the fans from the second Test match. 

"We wanted the fans back. We could have had it in the first Test in Chennai but we decided to go with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, who said ‘let’s see how it goes with the first one because this is our first game after a long time and then we open it up for the second,"  he said. 

The four-match Test series between India and England is levelled at 1-1. England won the first Test-match by 227 runs while Team India bounced back to register India's biggest win over England in Test matches as the hosts notched up a massive 317-run victory in the second Test match.
