Young Indian opener Shubman Gill sustained a blow on his left forearm towards the end of the third day’s play and has been taken for precautionary scans.

While fielding at the forward short-leg in the 18th over of England’s second innings on day 3, Shubman Gill copped a blow on his left forearm as English batsman Dan Lawrence stretched out to get to the pitch of the ball from R Ashwin and swept with power, with the ball hitting Gill on his left forearm.

Shubman Gill, who played a big role in India’s historic Test series win in Australia last month, didn't have a great Test match as the right-handed-batsman managed to score only 14 runs in the second Chennai Test.

However, addressing Gill’s injury  Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to their Twitter handle and released an official statement which read that Gill will not be fielding in the rest of the play and has been taken for precautionary scans.

“Gill sustained a blow on his left forearm while fielding on Day 3 of the second Test. He has been taken for a precautionary scan,” the BCCI said in a statement. The BCCI medical team is assessing him. He will not be fielding today,” BCCI said in an official statement.
