India spinner R Ashwin was extremely unhappy and disappointed after wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant missed an easy stumping on day three of the first Test against England. India bowlers had to work hard for wickets n the Chennai pitch which looked batting friendly in England's first innings.
Although the pitch is known to assist spinners, they also couldn't get much success on the lifeless track. No wonder Ashwin was dejected after the missed stumping as producing another chance in no time wasn't easy here.
Pant missed the opportunity in the 187th over when Jack Leach stepped out of the crease to tackle Ashwin but ended up getting beaten by the turn and bounce. The ball not only beat the batsman, but even the wicket-keeper also couldn't collect the ball as it bounced and stump him.
Ashwin wasn't happy at all as he put his hands on the face, showing disappointment. However, he did manage to get the last wicket and returned with 3 wickets in his tally.
England was bowled out on 578 in the first innings and their highest scorer was captain Joe Root. Root scored a double hundred (218) on his 100th Test match.
