IND v ENG 2021: Cricket fraternity lauds Joe Root as he slams a classy century in his 100th Test at Chepauk

Root became the 9th batsman to score a ton in his 100th Test.

Joe Root | BCCIEngland skipper Joe Root continued his fine form as he notched up his 20th Test hundred on Day 1 of the opening Test against India at Chepauk on Friday (February 5).

The visitors decided to bat on a seemingly easy pitch after winning the toss. They started off well with a sensible partnership between Rory Burns and Dom Sibley. But England lost two quick wickets on the score of 63 runs.

Amid the tough situation, Root once showed his class and came out with flying colours. The right-hander, who led England to a 2-0 series win in Sri Lanka with scores of 228 and 186 last month, slammed a classy century to put England in a dominant position.

During his knock, Root countered the Indian spinners brilliantly as he displayed a range of sweep shots and late cuts.

In the process, the England captain added an unbroken 172-run partnership with Sibley, with the tourists making 235/2 after 80 overs. He also became the 9th batsman to score a ton in his 100th Test.

For his stunning display with the bat, Joe Root received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
