Former England fast bowler Dominic Cork believes that the youngsters from both teams India and England would be major attractions and standout performers in the upcoming four-Test series starting Friday (February 7) at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Talking about the Indian camp, the youngsters like Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar have all impressed with their respective game to the entire world in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and are expected to do the same against England.

Gill and Pant were the two who most impressed Cork with their batting in the dangerous situations of the games against one of the best bowling attacks in Australia.

Pant cracked a couple of vital fifties and played a match-winning knock of 89 in Brisbane, while Gill scored 259 runs from three Tests hitting two fifties at an impressive average of 51.50.

The right-handed opening batsman also hit a magnificent knock of 91 at the Gabba to help India break Australia’s 32-year unbeaten record in Brisbane to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1 last month.

Hailing the 21-year-old for his performance in Australia, Cork has called Gill a “talented and superb cricketer” whom England will find it tough to out in the upcoming Test series in India.

Former England cricketer was highly impressed with Gill's Brisbane knock and now he wants him in India XI in every Test match while backing the Punjab lad to have a blockbuster series and to be the "brightest star of the series" against Joe Root-led England team at home.

Cork said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports: “In my opinion, when you are going to see who is going to succeed and be the brightest star this series on both sides, I will probably go with the younger aspect of it, something I have always done when working on the IPL.

When you look at two younger players on the Indian side, Scott Styris has been banging the drum about Shubman Gill but what a performance against Australia. He is obviously a talented cricketer.”

He signed off by saying, “So, I am going to pick him even though Rishabh Pant has got a major role to play in this series, especially with that superb inning in the last Test match to win the series against Australia.

But for me, I am just going to go the way Scott Styris would want everybody to go, with Shubman Gill because he is such a superb young player and England will find it tough to get him out.”
