Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that the team management should give Sanju Samson the opportunity in the third and final ODI after Suryakumar Yadav’s repeated failures against Australia.

Jaffer’s suggestion came after Suryakumar was dismissed for golden ducks in the first two ODIs against Australia as the tourists leveled the series at 1-1 with a 10-wicket win in the second ODI against Team India at Vizag on Sunday (March 19).

Suryakumar has been struggling for runs for the past few series, and the former batter feels the time has now come to show some faith in Samson, as he is not a bad player and can contribute with the bat.

Jaffer also spoke on how Surya lost his wicket to Mitchell Starc, as the Aussie speedster caught Yadav plumb in front of the wickets on both occasions in the ongoing three-match ODI series.

Wasim Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo: “We might sympathize with Suryakumar Yadav as the first ball that he faced was of 145 clicks. No doubt that it's challenging when a left-arm seamer tries to bring the ball back in. Again, he should have anticipated that when Mitchell Starc bowls, he will attack the stumps and might swing the ball.”

Jaffer feels Samson, who scored 330 runs from 11 ODIs at an average of 66, would not be a bad option to replace Suryakumar for the third and final ODI against Australia to be played on March 22 in Chennai.

He signed off by saying, “We have to see if the management sticks with him in the third ODI otherwise it's not a bad option to give Sanju Samson a chance because he has played well when given the opportunity and he is a good player.”
