Shubman Gill scored his first Test century in India and second overall | GettyIndia opener Shubman Gill made full use of the purple patch of form he is in with the bat as he notched up a sublime century in the ongoing fourth Test against Australia being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the third Test, which was played at Indore, Shubman Gill took the place of an out-of-sorts KL Rahul in the Indian XI. Nevertheless, Gill struggled in his team's humiliating loss at the Holkar Stadium, scoring just 21 and 5 on a wicket that supported spin bowling.

Usman Khawaja's 180 and all-rounder Cameron Green's first-ever Test century helped Australia amass a huge 480 in the first innings in Ahmedabad on a calm surface. Nathan Lyon scored 34 runs, and Todd Murphy added 41 more runs to the total, making Australia's tail also wag.

Prior to Rohit Sharma's 35-run dismissal, India enjoyed a strong start to their first innings, reaching 74 runs for the first wicket.

Then Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara (42) added 113 runs for the second wicket, frustrating the Australian bowlers before Todd Murphy had Cheteshwar Pujara out LBW.

Gill continued to punish bad balls and took opportunities to hit the balls for boundaries when they came. He reached to his second Test century and first in India in 194 balls, hitting 10 fours and 1 six.

He finally fell for 128 runs, trapped LBW by Nathan Lyon with India losing its 3rd wicket on 245 runs. He received a huge ovation from the Ahmedabad crowd as he walked back to the pavilion.

Not only the fans in the ground, but the cricketing fraternity on Twitter also lauded Shubman Gill’s brilliant knock.
