Veteran Australian batter Usman Khawaja continued his great form with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series, as he hit his first century in India in the ongoing fourth and final Test being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

While most Australian batters have failed to get going, Khawaja has been seen in fine touch in the series as he struck his 14th Test century to give the touring side a great start on Day one of the final Test against India in Ahmedabad on Thursday (March 9).

On the back of Khawaja’s fine and patient unbeaten hundred (104* off 251 balls; 15 fours), the Australian team finished day one at 255/4 against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

After the end of day one’s play, the Australian opener said that this century was pretty special for him that he notched up on his third tour to India. He also opened up about his ecstatic celebration with Cameron Green following his century in the ongoing Ahmedabad Test.

Usman Khawaja told broadcasters Star Sports Network after stumps on Day 1: “It was a lot of emotion in that. I have been to India on two tours before this and carried drinks in eight Test matches. It was such a nice wicket. I just didn't want to give my wicket away.”

He added, “It was a mental battle more than anything. You need to put your ego away…I had the helmet in my right hand, I told him (Green) just me a hug, instead of a high five (following his century). I have no superstitions; I stretched a bit in the morning and I was ready to go.”
