The fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy got underway on Thursday (March 9), as Australia won the toss and elected to bat first on a much better pitch for batting in Ahmedabad. Australia went in unchanged, while India brought in Mohammad Shami for Mohammed Siraj.
Australia got off to a good start of 61 runs before Travis Head lost his 'head' and threw away his wicket playing an unnecessary shot. Marnus Labuschagne, who hasn't had a great time with the bat in India, fell for 3 as he was cleaned up by Mohammad Shami.
Captain Steve Smith joined Usman Khawaja in the middle, and the duo batted patiently to put on a 79-run partnership for the third wicket before Smith was castles by Ravindra Jadeja.

This brought Peter Handscomb to the middle, who has on occasions defied the Indian spinners on some tricky pitches in the series. This time though, he was softened by Umesh Yadav with a barrage of short balls, and then Shami was rewarded with the wicket with a beautiful pitched up delivery which got through his defence and sent the off-stump for a walk and the batter packing.
Australia were 198/4 at the time of writing this, with Khawaja batting on 86 and eyeing the first hundred of the series for Australia.
