Team India might have taken a 2-1 lead in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Test Series against Australia, but their batters' struggle in the home conditions seem to be a real issue.
Reacting to Indian batters’ struggle in the Test series, former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir criticised the players while suggesting that they should have played some Ranji Trophy matches before the start of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
The former opener feels cricketers should play red-ball cricket before any Test contest, while claiming Australia lost the first two Tests because of their negative mindset.
Speaking with Sports Tak, Gautam Gambhir said: “Yes, they should've played Ranji Trophy matches, not 100% but 200%. The Indian batters should have played a few Ranji Trophy matches ahead of the Test series against Australia.”
He continued, “However, they shouldn't have played those matches just to prepare. It doesn't matter if you conduct 20-day camps or bat in the nets. Australia struggled in the first two matches because of their mindset of not playing practice matches.”
Gambhir signed off by saying, “This is a negative mindset. The same goes for the Indian batters. It is very important to play red-ball cricket before an important series.”
