As India and Australia are gearing up for the fourth and final Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Todd Murphy is extremely excited by the prospect of playing in front of a record crowd at the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.
Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground currently holds the record for hosting the largest crowd for a single day of test cricket, but now it seems that Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is all set to shatter it when the venue will host the final Test between India and Australia from March 9.
Notably, the MCG had set the record for hosting the largest crowd—91,112—in the 2013-14 Ashes series, and now it is expected that the 132,000-seat Ahmedabad stadium will witness more than 110,000 people on the opening day of the match. It is being said that India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the first day's play along with the Australian PM, Anthony Albanese.
Todd Murphy told reporters in Ahmedabad: “It's exciting, though. I think everyone looks forward to those opportunities where you can play in front of those sort of crowds. It'll be a great atmosphere. Something a bit different. I haven't played in front of heaps of big crowds back home.”
The Aussie spinner continued, “So, I've sort of come over here with just the mindset of enjoying it and embracing what comes with India and playing with a smile on my face. I didn't really know what opportunities I'd get at the start of the tour so just trying to enjoy it.”
Murphy made his debut in the first Test in Nagpur, where he picked up 7 wickets, and the spinner said that it was a surreal experience for him.
He signed off by saying, “It's been pretty surreal. To play the first three tests and be a part of a winning side was awesome. It's been a great tour and something I'm going to look back on for a long time and be really proud of what's come of it.”
