The pitch dished out for the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between India and Australia in Indore is drawing flak from all quarters.

The ball was turning viciously at the Holkar Stadium in the very first hour and uneven bounce made the job tougher for the batters. As it turned out, the Test match got over in just two days and a session with Australia defeating India by nine wickets.

After the game, ICC rated the Indore track as “poor” and also awarded it three demerit points. Match referee Chris Broad in his report said that the pitch was not a fair competition between the bat and ball.

Amidst all this, a report published in The Indian Express has claimed that the BCCI could file an appeal against the ICC’s verdict.

“We will take stock of the situation and decide," a BCCI official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

As per the ICC regulations, the Indian board has 14 days to appeal. The venue will be suspended from hosting any international cricket for a period of 12 months if it accumulates five or more demerit points over a five-year rolling period.

Spinners from both sides enjoyed great success on the Indore surface that was assisting them right from the start on Day 1, which saw 14 wickets fall. Out of the 31 wickets that fell during the whole match, 26 were taken by the tweakers.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) has pointed fingers at the BCCI and the Indian team management for the uproar over Indore track.

“Two curators from BCCI had come eight to ten days before the match. The pitch was prepared under their supervision. The MPCA had no role in making the pitch,” MPCA president Abhilash Khandekar told TOI in an interaction.

“I want to make it clear that just like any other state board association in international matches, MPCA has no role in making the pitch. BCCI curators come and they get the direction from BCCI along with the Indian team management,” he added.

However, Khandekar is unperturbed by the criticism of the match finishing inside three days.

“As far as match finishing in three days is concerned, we have seen such of matches in Nagpur and Delhi also. There has been criticism of the pitch but if you will see the post-match conference, both captains have supported the pitch so we have nothing to add,” the MPCA boss said.
