The environment in the Australian dressing room was sad and stunned as on day three of the second Test against India in Delhi, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin ran through their batting order in the first session itself.

Australia resumed day three on 61/1 but then the procession of wickets began thanks to the Indian spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin. Travis Head (43) was the second wicket to fall, caught by Bharat off Ashwin and then the big two fell.

Steve Smith (9) was out LBW to Ashwin playing the sweep shot, while Marnus Labuschagne (35) was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja as he played back to a ball which kept low.

Jadeja and Ashwin then basically routed the middle and lower order as Matt Renshaw made 2, Peter Handscomb made 0, Alex Carey fell trying to reverse sweep and captain Pat Cummins fell for a golden duck to Ravindra Jadeja.

Australia was bowled out for 113 runs and set India a 115-run target. Jadeja finished with 7/42 and Ashwin took 3/59, while the left-arm spinner completed 10 wickets in the match as well.

As soon as Pat Cummins was bowled by Jadeja, as the skipper missed a straight ball while trying to go for a sweep, as shot which was the cause of the downfall of the majority of Aussie batters, the visitors’ dressing room was a desolate place to be.

Marnus Labuschagne almost facepalmed watching Cummins’ wicket, while Steve Smith, David Warner and spin consultant Daniel Vettori sat emotionless watching the procession of wickets.
