The third day of the second between India and Australia which was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi proved to be the most entertaining one for the crowd who was present to witness something special.
Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin gave them their money’s worth as they cut through the Australian batting lineup like a warm knife through frozen butter.
Australia resumed day three on 61/1, but India hit soon as Travis Head (43) fell to Ashwin, caught by Bharat. Ashwin also accounted for Steve Smith, who was out LBW playing a sweep for 9 runs and then Jadeja got into the act, rattling Marnus Labuschagne’s stumps for 35 runs.
Soon, the visitors were bowled out for 113 runs in the first session itself and managed to set only 115 runs for India to win the second Test, go 2-0 up in the series and also retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
Jadeja picked 7/42 and Ashwin took 3/59 to share all ten wickets for only the second time in Tests.
While Jadeja picked wickets, Ashwin was also playing with the minds of two of the best Australian batters. He even managed to spook Steve Smith once as well.
Ashwin, bowling to Marnus Labuschagne, didn't release the ball during the 15th over of the second innings, leaving the non-striker Smith rattled. Ashwin didn’t attempt to run Smith out, but he was well amused at it.
Even Labuschagne let out a smile at Ashwin’s cheekiness, but the best reaction came from Virat Kohli in slips, who laughed out loud and even clapped in amusement.
