The opening One Day International (ODI) of the three-match ODI series has witnessed the reunion of Sourav Ganguly and Steve Waugh, as the two legends of the game were seen sitting together and watching the match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, January 14.
Australia might have thrashed India by 10 wickets in the first ODI, but the Indian fans were pleased to see former rivals Ganguly and Waugh watching the match together and discussing the game, as the rivalry between the two is one of the most fascinating ones in cricketing history.
The two of the most fierce captains of the game have been part of many memorable matches between India and Australia, while they had a fair bit of banter during their playing days, but particularly 2000-01 and 2003-04 series is still etched in the minds of cricket fans till date.

While Waugh retired from the international cricket at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during the 2003-04 series, the 2000-2001 series witnessed a famous on-field incident, as the current BCCI president is remembered for frustrating Waugh during the Visakhapatnam ODI.
Ganguly had allegedly made Waugh wait for the toss on purpose in Visakhapatnam which did not go down well with the former Australian captain and even he often used to make him wait for the toss before the start of every Test match.
Well, Ganguly and Waugh's meeting was nostalgic for the fans, as they showered love for the duo after BCCI President shared the picture on social media. He captioned the post, “Competed with this man for a long period .. tremendous respect" and the veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh liked the picture and commented "legends" on it.

Noteworthy, Waugh, who had given the maiden ODI cap to debutant Marnus Labuschagne but he didn't get the opportunity to bat as Aaron Finch and David Warner were enough to take Australia to a 10-wicket win over India, was in Mumbai to capture images for his next book and also for some assignments with his charitable foundation.
