MS Dhoni arrives in Ranchi for the 3rd ODI against Australia
MS Dhoni is known as a humble and selfless cricketer. During his long captaincy tenure of the Indian Cricket Team, he often batted way lower than he would have otherwise to ensure youngsters batted in the positions where pressure is relatively lesser. This meant Dhoni had to take the responsiblity upon himself of finishing games from tricky situations.
Dhoni has scored over 10,000 runs at an average of 51 in one-day international cricket, but the numbers could have been even more impressive had he batted higher up the order but team always comes first for the man and that also reflected in his decision to quit captaincy to allow Virat Kohli time to settle into the role, two years before the World Cup.
Just like the Sachin Tendulkar stand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, or the Virender Sehwag gate at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi will now have a 'M.S. Dhoni Pavilion'.
“At the AGM last year, the decision was taken that the North Block stand that comprises media enclosure as well as VIP boxes would be named after Dhoni,” Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) secretary Debashis Chakraborty told PTI on Wednesday.
However, Dhoni has not agreed to inaugurate his own stand, informed the JSCA secretary.
“We requested him but he said ‘Dada apne hi ghar mein kya inaugurate karna.’ (What’s there to inaugurate in my own house). He is still so humble and down to earth,” Chakraborty said.
MS Dhoni is set to play in what could be his last ever international match in his hometown when India takes on Australia in the Third ODI on Friday. Dhoni guided India to a win in the First ODI, but failed to open his account in the Second ODI in Nagpur. India currently leads the series 2-0.
Dhoni will certainly want to entertain his fans who will come out in numbers to support their hero on Friday.
