Team India have attained the third slot, surpassing Pakistan in the ICC ODI Team Rankings after registering a thumping 10-wicket victory over England in the first game of the three-ODI series at The Oval on Tuesday (July 12).
Before the first ODI, the Rohit Sharma-led side was placed fourth in the rankings table with 105 rating points. With an emphatic win against England, however, the Men in Blue are now one spot up and have 108 rating points to their name, leaving Pakistan behind at 106 points.
New Zealand continue to occupy the top position with 126 rating points, followed by defending World champions England (122 rating points).
Pakistan had pushed India down to the No. 4 spot in the ODI rankings last month after a 3-0 series whitewash over West Indies. The Babar Azam-led team also climbed to third spot as Australia slipped after suffering a 3-2 defeat in the five-ODI series against Sri Lanka. However, their stay at No. 3 has been a short one, with India claiming the position once again.
India could strengthen their lead by winning the last two ODIs against England, followed by the three-ODI series versus West Indies later this month.
On the contrary, India might fall in the rankings and go below Pakistan if they lose the last two ODIs against England.
Pakistan's next ODI assignment is against the Netherlands next month. Babar Azam and his men are scheduled to play three 50-over matches in Rotterdam from August 16 to August 21.
