Australia beat England by 19 runs in the first ODI match at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday (September 11) and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bowl first. Their bowlers gave them a good start and sent top order batsmen of Australia to the dressing room cheaply. At 123/5 Australia were reeling but Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell's 126 runs partnership for the sixth wicket helped Australia to post a good total of 294/9 on the board. Mitchell Marsh scored 73 runs while Maxwell played 77 runs knock. For England Jofra Archer and Mark Wood took 3 wickets each.

In reply, England didn't have a good start and both Jason Roy and Joe Root got out cheaply off Josh Hazlewood's bowling. Eoin Morgan got a start but couldn't convert and was dismissed by Adam Zampa and in the next over Jos Buttler also got out to Zampa. At 57/4, England were in big trouble.

Jonny Bairstow and Sam Billings rebuilt the innings and their 113 runs partnership for fifth wicket helped England to make a comeback but then Bairstow was dismissed by Zampa for a well made 84. In the end, Sam Billings continued to fight and brought up his maiden ODI hundred but his efforts weren't enough and eventually England fell short of target by 19 runs. Billings scored 118 runs and for Australia, Adam Zampa took 4 wickets while Hazlewood picked 3 wickets.
