The five-match Test series between India and England ended with the visitors winning the finale, thereby drawing level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at 2-2.
Apart from the riveting contest between bat and ball, the series witnessed several fiery on-field and off-field confrontations. From Shubman Gill’s clash with Zak Crawley at Lord’s to Mohammed Siraj’s exchange with Ben Duckett, and Gautam Gambhir’s heated moment with the Oval curator, tempers flared throughout the series.
However, it all ended with a friendly celebration in the England dressing room, as revealed by India batter Karun Nair.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Nair spilled beans on what happened when the touring side visited its opposing team’s locker room.
Despite a memorable win at the Oval, Nair disclosed that India had a simple celebration before leaving for the English dressing room.
“Not really. We didn’t overdo anything,” Nair said, before adding that both teams shared respectful conduct, and England coach Brendon McCullum termed the series as one of the greatest in “recent memory.”
“We had a good chat, both teams were respectful of the fact that it was a great series,” Nair remarked. “Brendon McCullum mentioned it was the greatest Test series to be played in recent memory. As players, we didn’t feel the magnitude of it during the matches, but looking back at how the moments panned out, as a group, we feel we achieved something special.”
When Shubman Gill’s men landed in England, no one gave them a chance following the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. However, the team in transition proved everyone wrong as they gave the hosts a run of their money in all five Test matches.
India won the series-decider at the Oval by a narrow margin of six runs to finish the tour on a high note.
