Team India’s valiant fight to earn a hard-fought win in the fifth and final Test against England at the Oval has been appreciated by not only former cricketers and experts but also fans from both countries. India somehow managed to defend a 374-run target at the Oval to win by six runs.
England was looking good to win at 301/3, with Joe Root and Harry Brook hitting centuries and adding 195 runs together. But then, Indian pacers removed the two batters, and England couldn’t handle the pressure of scoring the remaining 70-odd runs.
Bad light and rain stretched the game into the fifth and final day, where Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna managed to extract swing and movement from an 80-plus-over ball and won India the match.
However, during the fantabulous show, former Pakistan fast bowler Shabbir Ahmed, who played 10 Tests and 32 ODIs, accused the Indians of ball-tampering. He stated that Indians used Vaseline on the ball to make it swing and move off the pitch. He stated that it wasn’t possible for an 80-plus-over ball to move in the air like that.
"I think India used Vaseline. After 80 + over Ball still shine like new Umpire should send this ball to lab for examine," he wrote on X.
However, this claim backfired on Shabbir Ahmed as he was roasted on social media platform X as fans trolled him. They also mentioned how Shabbir faded away after a ban by the ICC for suspicious bowling action.
