Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, praised captain Shubman Gill for taking the lead in the just-finished Test series against England and urged him to keep getting better in the years to come.

Throughout the five-match series, Gill amassed 754 runs with four hundreds, playing a key role in India's arduous 2-2 tie. In the series, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal each scored two hundreds and two fifties. Rishabh Pant hammered two centuries in a single Test and made 3 fifties, while Ravindra Jadeja starred with one century and five fifties, scoring over 500 runs.

On the bowling side, Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah each claimed 14 wickets, while Mohammed Siraj claimed 23.

"I think Gill has done a fabulous job, that’s all I can say and he will keep doing well for Indian cricket,” Gambhir told reporters upon his arrival from England on Tuesday. 

Additionally, Gambhir was quick to shift the blame and highlight the team's combined efforts.

"We are really happy. I think the boys deserve every bit of it because of the way they fought over the last two months in all five Test matches. They deserve all the plaudits,” he added.

While he praised Mohammed Siraj for his lion-hearted performance in the Test series, Gambhir made it clear that several players stood out throughout the series.

"Look, he (Siraj) has been really brilliant, not only him, the entire team has performed brilliantly, and it is really difficult for me to mention one name. These guys have, be it Shubman, be it Siraj, Jaddu, Washi, Jaiswal, I can stand here and talk for the next 20 mins about the individual performances. I think the boys have been brilliant in the last two months," Gambhir said.
