On Monday, Team India stunned England with a 6-run victory at The Oval, pulling off an incredible heist. As Shubman Gill and his boys battled like warriors, the series was at stake. With four wickets remaining, England needed to get 35 runs on the final day, but Mohammed Siraj stepped up and demolished the opposition's lower order with a fifer.
In recognition of his massive run haul in the series, Sunil Gavaskar had met Indian captain Shubman Gill a few days earlier and gave him a cap and a t-shirt bearing his initials, "SG." Additionally, he stated that he would don the white jacket he wore on the last day of the 2021 Gabba Test, which India won by three wickets.
On the final day of the fifth Test, Gavaskar appeared to call the game wearing the same white jacket. He was in the commentary box as Siraj finished off Gus Atkinson with an inswinging yorker to secure the victory.
“Lucky Jacket! I promised Shubman Gill that I will wear this," a joyful Gavaskar said on air.
The series, which lasted less than seven weeks, was full of drama, beginning with England's 371-run chase at Headingley. India recovered at Edgbaston before England won at Lord's to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth Test finished in a tight tie. Siraj finished the series with 23 wickets.
Despite centuries from Root (105) and Brook (111), England's slide from 301-3 to 367 all out cost them the match.
