The England-India Test series was among the best he has ever seen, according to England head coach Brendon McCullum. To tie the series, India went on to win the last Test.
England head coach Brendon McCullum reflected on the series' chaotic conclusion after the Oval Test, where India won the match by 6 runs to tie the series on Day 5 thanks to Mohammed Siraj's brilliant five-wicket haul. He even suggested that it was one of the best series endings he has ever been a part of.
"That is the best five-match test series I have ever been a part of and witnessed. It just oscillated so much right throughout the six weeks, and I felt it had everything. I thought there was hostility at times, camaraderie at times, great cricket at times, and there was some average cricket because of the pressure they were put under. We knew it was going to be hard coming into the series; we knew they were going to test us physically and mentally. I think it tested both teams more than we expected," McCullum said on Sky Cricket.
While acknowledging his sadness, McCullum expressed admiration for the way both teams battled to the very end of the last Test, where Mohammed Siraj came in clutch with three wickets on the fifth day to give India the victory.
"It was a cracking series to be a part of, and when Siraj took that final wicket, as much as I was disappointed, I had admiration for him and the fight he has got as a cricketer and the way he was able to do what he did. I think 2-2 was a fair reflection," he concluded.
