India’s KL Rahul and Sri Lankan umpire Kumar Dharmasena got into a heated discussion amidst the Prasidh Krishna vs. Joe Root verbal drama on day two of the ongoing fifth Test between India and England being played at the Oval.

Dharmasena and Rahul argued after the official wanted Prasidh Krishna to stop arguing with ace England batter Joe Root, which continued for a while. Rahul intervened to support his teammate as Root pointed at Krishna and approached Dharmasena to seek clarification.

Rahul asked the umpire whether he thought the Indian team would bowl and bat emotionlessly and without any other on-field activity. The former kept up his backing for Krishna.

“What do you want us to do? Be quiet," Rahul questioned Dharmasena. “Will you like any bowler who comes and walks to you? No, you can’t do that. No, Rahul, we shouldn’t go on that way," Dharmasena replied.

“What do you want us to do? Just bat and ball and go home," Rahul retorted. “We will discuss at the end of the match. You can’t talk like that," Dharmasena said.

Despite a brilliant start by Ben Duckett (43) and Zak Crawley (64), who added 92 runs in 12.5 overs for the first wicket, England slightly slipped up in the second half of the day. Prasidh Krishna picked four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj bowled a marathon spell, taking three wickets, including those of Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Jacob Bethell with exceptional deliveries.

As rain intervened in the game after tea, England were 242/8 with a lead of 18 runs and Harry Brook batting on 48*, with Josh Tongue for company.
