Ahead of the fifth Test against England at the Oval, a video of India head coach Gautam Gambhir having a heated argument with the chief of Surrey ground staff Lee Fortis has taken the cricketing world by storm.
During India’s training session on Tuesday (July 29), Gambhir lost his composure after being told to stay two and a half meters away when he was inspecting the pitch.
Coaches and captains usually take a look at the surface in the days leading up to a Test to fine-tune their plans and team combinations.
A day after the incident, Fortis was seen approaching the Indian team again to instruct them to stand away from the pitch area. India skipper Shubman Gill, head coach Gambhir, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were having a discussion around the main pitch area when the curator was seen approaching them.
Fortis walked towards Kotak and asked him to move to a different position, which was not very far from where they were standing. The Indian think tank changed their position without any fuss. However, Gambhir gave a complete cold shoulder to Fortis, ignoring the latter in a way as if he did not know him.
The curator changed his path after passing on the instructions, while Gill, Gambhir, Kotak, and Agarkar continued with their discussion.
Here’s the video:
India are currently 1-2 behind in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy but have a golden opportunity to draw the series in the final Test, set to begin on July 31.
