Ishan Kishan, who was reportedly set to replace the injured Rishabh Pant in the Indian squad for the fifth and final Test, is injured himself and reports have stated that he has been ruled out as a replacement.
Rishabh Pant suffered a fracture to his right foot after he was struck on it trying to reverse sweep Chris Woakes on day one. The ball hit flush on the right foot and Pant immediately hobbled off in pain. He tried to put weight on it and hopped a bit, but when the Indian physio took off his boot, the foot had swelled up.
Pant was carried off the field by a medical buggy and later scans showed that he had suffered a fracture and won’t keep wickets in the ongoing Test. He was also ruled out of the fifth and final Test, to be played at the Oval, as well, after being advised rest for six weeks.
There were reports that the BCCI have contacted Ishan Kishan, who is in England, playing County cricket for Northamptonshire, to join the Indian squad as a backup keeper to Dhruv Jurel.
However, a Times of India report, has stated that Ishan Kishan cannot replace Rishabh Pant in India’s squad for the fifth Test, as he himself is injured at the moment. It has been revealed that Kishan fell off a scooter and injured his ankle.
"Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty. Selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle,” the TOI report stated.
Although the BCCI has not released an official statement, TimesofIndia.com can confirm that Rishabh Pant has broken his foot, will require extensive rehabilitation, and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
According to trustworthy sources, the 27-year-old will start his recuperation at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA).
