India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered a brutal foot injury on day one of the ongoing fourth Test against England. This match began on July 23, 2025, with England leading the five-match series 2-1. England also won the toss and chose to bowl first in overcast conditions.
England had made one change, bringing in Liam Dawson for the injured Shoaib Bashir. On the other hand, India made three changes, with Sai Sudharsan replacing Karun Nair, Shardul Thakur coming in for injured Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Anshul Kamboj replacing Akash Deep.
Indian openers KL Rahul (47) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) added 94 runs for the first wicket to give the visitors a great start. Then Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan added 26 runs before Jaiswal fell to Dawson. Shubman Gill was the next to fall for 12 runs to Ben Stokes.
Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant then gave India a push as they added 72* runs for the fourth wicket. Pant had slammed 37 runs with 2 fours and one six when tragedy struck.
The incident happened on the fourth ball of the 68th over when he tried to play a reverse sweep shot against Chris Woakes, but he failed to connect properly, and the ball hit him on the shoe on the small toe.
Pant was in a lot of agony following the collision, and he even struggled to stand up. The Indian physio and medical team rushed to Pant’s aid, and there was swelling on his right foot on the toe. Pant was grimacing on every touch, and it was decided that he’ll retire hurt and was taken off the field using a medical buggy.
The camera caught his injured spot bleeding, and Pant looked very much in pain. Ravindra Jadeja came out to bat in his place.
