KL Rahul, who is the senior-most batter in the current Indian Test team after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's retirement, has lived up to the expectations in the ongoing England tour so far.

With 375 runs to his name from three Tests, which includes two centuries and a fifty, Rahul is the fourth-highest run-getter in the series till now, only behind Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Jamie Smith.

Impressed with his exploits, former India head coach Ravi Shastri appreciated KL Rahul's exceptional talent while also highlighting technical adjustments that have improved his performance.

“I think there wasn’t one person in the world who denied his potential and said that he [Rahul] wasn’t talented. What annoyed people was that, with that kind of talent, he wasn’t delivering," Shastri said while speaking on the latest episode of ICC Review.

“And in this series, you’re seeing the best of Rahul. What I am seeing is a slight adjustment he’s made with his front foot, in his stance and while defending. It just opened up a bit, which allows his back to come through cleanly," he added.

Shastri went on to explain the technical changes Rahul has made to enable this prolific run in Test cricket.

“He does not need to close the face of the blade and fall over and get into trouble like he used to in the past. He would get out LBW, would get out bowled, he would get across too far and then be out LBW as well," Shastri said.

“He is sound technically and he has been as good as anyone. Especially, it has not moved a lot in the series, but when it has moved, he has had the game to look after that movement," Shastri remarked.

At 33, Shastri believes that Rahul is hitting his peak in Tests, marking the start of what can be an extended period of dominance with the bat.

“He’s at his prime. He has got to make these next three, four years count. And I see him getting a lot of hundreds because he’s playing a lot of cricket in India as well. So whatever that average is, he should be close to 50," Shastri stated.
