KL Rahul etched his name in the Lord's Honours Board once again, becoming the first Indian after 39 years to score multiple Test centuries at the hallowed ground on Saturday (July 12).
Rahul, who had slammed a hundred in the first Test of the ongoing series against England at Headingley, notched up this three-figure mark in 176 balls, studded with 13 boundaries.
In doing so, Rahul became only the second Indian after former skipper Dilip Vengsarkar to get more than one mention at the Lord's Honours Board. While Vengsarkar scored three hundreds at Lord's - 103 (1979), 157 (1982) and 102 not out (1986), Rahul's previous ton at this iconic venue came in 2021.
It was Rahul's 10th century in Test cricket and ninth outside India. The stylish right-hander has scored centuries in England (four), South Africa (two), Australia, Sri Lanka, and West Indies (one each).
However, Rahul’s joy was short-lived at Lord’s as he was dismissed by Shoaib Bashir on exactly 100 off 177 balls. His wicket in the second session reduced India to 254/5 in reply to England’s first innings score of 387.
With Rahul’s century and dismissal, the Test remains delicately poised heading into the crucial third session.
For his classy hundred at the Home of Cricket, KL Rahul earned rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media.
