India vice-captain Rishabh Pant sustained a finger injury on Day 1 of the Lord’s Test against England, prompting Dhruv Jurel to take over wicketkeeping duties.
Jurel continued to keep wickets for India on the second day as Pant is still recovering from the hit on his left index finger.
However, Indian fans at Lord’s heaved a sigh of relief on Friday (July 11) when they saw Pant walking towards the nets — bat in hand, pads and gloves on — just moments before the visitors bowled England out for 387 at Lord’s.
According to a TOI report, the southpaw was accompanied by batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, physio Yogesh Pamar and the team's throwdown specialists. He spent more than 15 minutes in the nets facing throwdowns.
The wicketkeeper-batter reportedly looked uncomfortable during the session, frequently inspecting his left hand, shaking it, and showing signs of distress. Despite the comfort, he displayed a clear intent to bat.
Rishabh Pant has been in terrific touch with the bat in the ongoing England tour. He slammed twin centuries in the series opener at Headingley.
The left-hander followed up his brilliant 134 in the first innings with an entertaining 118 in the second essay. As a result, he became only the second wicketkeeper in history to score a century in both innings of a Test match, joining Zimbabwe legend Andy Flower in an elite list.
Pant continued his impressive form in the second Test at Edgbaston, returning with scores of 25 and 65 as India registered a series-levelling 336-run victory in the five-match rubber.
