The first session of the second day of the ongoing third Test between England and India, being played at the Lord’s ground, belonged to the hosts, thanks to the magic of pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
England resumed their first innings on 251/4 on day 2 and added only 9 more runs when Jasprit Bumrah struck, removing captain Ben Stokes.
Bumrah, bowling from around the wicket, beat Stokes with an inswinger that pitched on length and came into the batter sharply. Before Stokes could bring his bat down, the ball had already struck the top of the off-stump, and Stokes had to walk back to the pavilion.
Joe Root, on the other hand, completed his 37th Test century and 8th at the Lord’s. He celebrated by soaking in the applause from the crowd. However, he could add 5 more runs to his overnight score of 99, as Jasprit Bumrah then rattled his stumps as well.
Bumrah bowled a fuller length to Root, and the batter planted his front leg towards the off side to play a beautiful cover drive. However, the ball came into him slightly and took the inside edge onto the middle stump, flattening it.
Root had to walk back for 104 runs in 199 balls with 10 fours to his name.
