Current India captain Shubman Gill has received excellent marks from Sachin Tendulkar, who praised the 25-year-old for both his leadership and batting abilities. Currently on his debut tour as captain of India, Gill has so far had an outstanding batting series.
In the first two Test matches, Gill has amassed 585 runs, including a double century. When India overcame England by 336 runs at Edgbaston to square the series 1-1, he also recorded his maiden victory as captain. Gill starred with 269 and 161 runs, becoming the first Indian to score more than 400 runs in a single Test.
“He’s been good. He’s very calm and composed, and I strongly believe that how the rest of the 10 players also react to whatever decision he has taken has been measured decisions well thought of. His batting is complementing that as well because if a captain is in good form, it makes a huge difference in decision-making. You need to be in the right frame of mind to make those important calls. He’s been batting brilliantly,” Tendulkar said in a video released by Star Sports.
“As an opposition, normally, you know, they look to find weak areas in your batting. When your technique at this point in time has been remarkable. Whatever I have seen, it’s been special. I am very happy you know the way we came back in the series in the second Test match after that disappointment in the first Test match,” he added.
