India pacer Prasidh Krishna had faced severe backlash for his expensive bowling in the first Test against England at Headingley. He conceded runs at over six-an-over in both innings for his five-wickets.
There was no improvement in Krishan’s bowling as he was taken to the cleaners by English batters on Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston.
The lanky right-arm quick leaked 61 runs in eight wicketless overs at over seven-an-over, which helped Harry Brook and Jamie Smith steer England to 249/5 at lunch with an unbroken 165-run stand.
The Three Lions were in dire straits when Prasidh was introduced into the attack in the morning session, with Mohammed Siraj having removed Joe Root and Ben Stokes in consecutive deliveries in his first over of the day to reduce the hosts to 84/5.
Prasidh Krishna was bowling at an economy of four at that point, but wicketkeeper Smith launched an onslaught on him, smashing the fast bowler for three fours and a six in a 23-run over that also included a wide. It was this over that shifted the momentum and put the pressure back on the Indians.
Brook and Smith went on to smash another 89 runs in the next 15 overs to ensure the hosts ended the morning session on a high note, collecting a staggering 172 runs for the loss of just two wickets.
In the process, Jamie Smith completed his century off 80 balls also became the first England batter to score 100+ runs in a session before lunch, having not been unbeaten overnight.
