The second Test of the five-match series between England and India began on July 2, 2025, at Edgbaston, Birmingham. England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first.
India made three changes in Nitish Kumar Reddy replacing Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar replacing Sai Sudharsan, and Akash Deep coming in place of Jasprit Bumrah.
India lost an early wicket as KL Rahul fell for 2 runs to Chris Woakes. Karun Nair followed next for a 31, just as he looked set for a big one. Yashasvi Jaiswal, at the other end, looked good for another century, but fell for 87, with Ben Stokes having him caught behind. Jaiswal hit 13 fours in his knock.
Shubman Gill then dropped anchor, and wickets kept falling at the other end. Rishabh Pant made 31 with 5 fours, but was dismissed trying to hit Shoaib Bashir for a six.
