Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has stated that the team management hasn’t taken a call, but pacer Jasprit Bumrah is "available" for the second Test against England at Edgbaston. However, it remains to be seen whether, given his minimal usage for the five-match series, he would be included in the final XI.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that the management would not compromise on Bumrah's three-match usage following the end of the first game of the series.

Supporters and former cricket players suggested that Bumrah be used in all five Test matches, but Gambhir promptly rejected the idea, saying they were more worried about his workload.

According to a number of reports, India would not field Bumrah for the second Test. When asked about Bumrah's concerns, Doeschate responded that he is "available" but that the management has not yet decided whether or not to send him to the on-field action.

"Yeah, he's available for the game, obviously. We know from the start he's only going to play three out of the five. He's obviously had eight days to recover from the last test. But given conditions and workload, and how we think we can best manage for the next four games, we haven't made a call on that. We're going to see what the other guys are doing with their workload as well. So technically, yes, he's available. But we haven't decided on whether he's going to play or not yet," Doeschate told reporters in a press conference.

In the first game of the series at Headingley, India fielded its pace leader, Bumrah, but they still lost. With statistics of 5/83 in the first innings, he shone, but in the second, he lost his enchantment and went wicketless.

After Bumrah's threat was eliminated, England easily defeated India, hitting a target of 371 runs. Doeschate confirmed that they must determine which surface would be best to bring out the best in the 31-year-old, as the star pacer is available for two of the four tests.

"With Bumrah, he is ready to play. So, like I said in the very first question, it's how we manage these four tests. So, if we feel like there's value in playing him in this Test, we'll make that call at the very last minute. But I'm talking about whether, or how, the pitch is going to play. Are we better off holding him back for Lord's and maybe Manchester or the Oval? So it's all those factors," he said.

During Saturday's optional workout, Bumrah made his way back to the nets. Given how confident Bumrah is about his physical condition heading into the Test, India will make the final decision.

"But you saw him train yesterday. He trained a little bit today. It's not like he's not fit to play. It's just trying to fit those puzzle pieces to get the most out of him, out of what we know we do have from him," he added.
