India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant spoke about Sunil Gavaskar praising him with ‘Superb, superb, superb’ comment as he stroked his 3rd century against England on their home ground on day 1 of the ongoing first Test at Leeds.
In the first innings, Rishabh Pant batted for India at number five and amassed 134 runs. Pant faced 178 balls while he was at the crease, hitting 12 fours and six sixes. Along with captain Shubman Gill (147), he contributed 229 runs for the fourth wicket, helping India reach 471 runs on Saturday, June 21.
In the most recent Test series India played against Australia, Pant, who was dreadfully out of form for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025, also did not contribute much with the bat. Sunil Gavaskar criticized him for making a hasty shot during the Boxing Day Test, which cost him his wicket.
However, Gavaskar, on commentary, was elated at Rishabh Pant’s 7th Test century, praising him with a "superb, superb, superb' remark.
Regarding the same, Cheteshwar Pujara asked Pant before the start of the third day’s play in Leeds. Pant replied, saying that he feels happy to change his setbacks into comebacks.
“Bahut acha lagta hai ki aap apni khamiyon par work karte ho and jo apke setback hote hai usko comeback mei aap change karte ho. Toh wahi wala thought process tha ki theek hai maine bhi kuch kara hoga aisa, but luckily maine usko change kar paya, hard work kar ke, focus kar ke, aur thoda discipline rakh ke cricket mei, toh vo bahut exciting tha mere liye
(It feels great when you work on your weaknesses and change the setbacks into your comeback. So that was the thought process that it is okay; I too would have done something like this, but luckily I was able to change it by working hard, focusing, and keeping a little discipline in cricket, so that was very exciting for me), Pant said.
In reply to India’s 471, England ended day 2 on 209/3 with Ollie Pope scoring a century and Ben Duckett making 62. At the time of writing this piece, England had made 268/4 with Harry Brook and Ben Stokes at the crease.
