Young Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal made an instant impact in his maiden Test tour of England as he slammed a stunning hundred on Day 1 of the first Test at Headingley.
Asked to bat first, the southpaw got the visitors off to a fabulous start, adding 91 runs for the opening wicket with KL Rahul (42).
Jaiswal mixed caution with aggression in the first session to remain unbeaten on 41. He put a pedal on the accelerator in the second session to notch up his fifth Test ton.
In the company of new captain Shubman Gill, Jaiswal made a mockery of the English bowling attack. They didn’t put a foot wrong as India didn’t lose a wicket in the post-lunch session.
Jaiswal brought up the three-figure mark on the final delivery of the 49th over with a single off Brydon Carse’s bowling. He raised his arms, took his helmet off and leaped in joy after reaching the milestone.
The swashbuckling left-hander ended the session on 100* off 155 balls while Gill stayed not out on 58 off 74 balls, propelling the tourists to 215/2 at Tea break.
In the final session, Jaiswal was knocked over by Ben Stokes for 101 off 159 balls, which included 16 boundaries and 1 six.
Cricket fraternity was all praises for Yashasvi Jaiswal as he lived up to the hype with a hundred in his very first Test in England.
