Ahead of the crucial five-match Test series against England that begins on June 20, the Indian team captained by Shubman Gill arrived in London on Saturday. A video of the team's arrival in London was shared on social media by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be absent from an Indian Test team traveling to England for the first time since 2011. The BCCI selectors are now left to choose a new-look Indian team after the two experienced hitters declared their retirement from the traditional format last month.
However, their absence was noticed right away as the Indian team arrived in London on Saturday, with no fans or journalists present at the airport.
When Kohli arrived with the Indian team for the tour of Australia last November, Adelaide was packed with journalists and fans from the airport to the practice site.
Even before the match began, the 36-year-old Kohli, who is reportedly playing his final Test series in Australia, had garnered media attention. Fans had to scale trees to get a sight of the superstar because of the intense hype, which compelled Indian team management to hold a practice session behind closed doors.
However, none was spotted in London on Saturday following the Gill-led team's arrival for the five-match Test series, which begins on June 20.
Indian journalist Vimal Kumar said, "I did not get to see that hype. Not a single fan or media person was seen."
