Having made his international debut in 2022, Arshdeep Singh has established himself as India’s leading pacer in the shortest format of the game.

The left-arm quick has already played 63 T20Is, claiming 99 wickets at an average of 18.30 and an economy rate of 8.29 with the best figures of 4/9 to his name. He also played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year.

Arshdeep has also picked up 14 wickets in nine ODIs so far, while he is yet to make his debut in the longest format of the game.

With the England tour around the corner, Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) bowling coach James Hopes has advocated for Arshdeep’s inclusion in the Indian Test team.

Arshdeep has been exceptional for PBKS in the ongoing IPL 2025 so far, claiming 16 wickets from 12 matches at an average of 21.93 and an economy of 8.

“He’s perfectly suited for English conditions. He can swing the ball both ways, he can bowl reverse swing if required. He can bowl around the wicket as a left-armer seamer and still take it away from the right-hander,” Hopes said in an exclusive chat with Times of India.

“Arshdeep is highly skilled and very coachable. He’s open to just trying subtle, new things. You find sometimes that guys with high skill, like he has, can be very happy in the spot they’re in. But he’s always wanting to expand and keeps asking, ‘What if I hold the ball like this, is it a bit different?’” he added.

The former Australian cricketer also predicted that Arshdeep Singh will become the most dominant bowlers in world cricket in a few years.

“The way he’s swinging the ball this year is a little bit different, which has caught some players by surprise. He’s still young. He’s got so much cricket left. When we get to the end of his career, we’ll talk about him as one of the most dominant bowlers of all time,” Hopes remarked.

India will travel to England for five Test matches next month. The marquee series is slated to get underway on June 20 at Headingley, followed by matches at Lord's (June 28), Trent Bridge (July 6), The Oval (July 14), and Old Trafford (July 24).
