England are all set to host Team India in a five-match Test series, scheduled to get underway on June 20 at Headingley.
With less than two months remaining for the marquee series, it is reported that Three Lions are considering former New Zealand pacer Tim Southee as their fast-bowling consultant.
Southee is one of the contenders to replace the legendary James Anderson, who took up the role after calling time on his illustrious Test career last year. However, Anderson is unavailable this summer due to playing commitments with county side Lancashire.
Southee retired from international cricket last December, finishing as New Zealand’s second highest wicket-taker in Tests with 391 scalps to his name.
According to BBC, Southee shares a healthy camaraderie with England head coach Brendon McCullum.
Apart from McCullum, former New Zealand spinner Jeetan Patel is also part of England’s support staff, currently serving as the spin bowling coach.
England’s home summer kicks off with a one-off Test against Zimbabwe next month, followed by a white-ball series against the West Indies, before they lock horns with India in a five-Test series.
