India succumbed in the Southampton Test to concede the series after their lower middle order failed to scored the needful runs after Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane steadies the chase an added 101 for the fourth wicket.

Kohli was dismissed with India placed at 123 for 4. India then lost the rest 6 wickets for  61 runs to help  England take an unassailable 3-1in the series.

Veteran Indian left-hander  Gautam Gambhir has blamed wrong shot selection by the Indian batsmen as the main reasin for their loss in the fourth Test.

Moeen Ali after taking five wickets in the first innings, took four wickets again in the second including that of Kohli and Rahane to break the back of India's chase.

Gambhir said on the same  “Obviously a frustrating loss for India. You expect Indian batters to chase 245 on this wicket. Obviously, Moeen Ali was a threat. But the way Virat Kohli and Rahane were going, India were in the game. Some of the shots were absolutely not up to the mark, especially Rishabh Pant,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by Times of India on Monday.

“You don’t expect when you are chasing around 90 runs and you start playing like this. Obviously, you can be brave but there are better options that could have been taken.”

Gambhir further said that the pitch was not a bad one to bat on and also felt that Indian batsmen should have scored the runs in the second innings.

“India batters should have gotten this total on this wicket. Moeen Ali was a threat and then they had three fast bowlers plus Sam Curran. But I thought that the wicket wasn’t that bad as it looked and it played really well, especially from the fast bowler’s point of view.”

The fifth and final Test at Kennington Oval will commence on Friday. Meanwhile, former England skipper Alastair Cook who recent;y announced his Test retirement after the ongoing series against India will play his last Test at The Oval.
