England and India are engaged in a spirited battle in the third Test of the five-match series at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. England is already 2-0 up in the series and looking to win this Test and pocket the series against the no.1 ranked Indian team.
Indian team has been hit hard by the failures of their batting lineup, which surrendered meekly at Lord’s and lost the Test by an innings margin. Apart from that, the performance of the wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was also under the scanner thanks to his two ducks in four innings so far and his mistakes behind the stumps in the first Test at Edgbaston.
With Karthik falling for 1 and 0 in the Lord’s Test, calls for his exclusion from the team started gaining momentum and experts felt that it was the right time to blood in the young Delhi keeper Rishabh Pant.
Pant had been in England for a while with India A squad and had done very well in both the First-Class matches and the List A matches. He was chosen in the Test squad as a backup for Karthik and on the morning of the third Test match, it was confirmed that Rishabh Pant will make his Test debut at Trent Bridge.
Rishabh Pant received his Test cap from skipper and fellow Delhi player Virat Kohli. The BCCI captured the moment on camera and shared it on their official Twitter account.
