Former South African great Shaun Pollock has said that young Hardik Pandya is an exceptional talent and could "probably (be) a long-term all-round option for" for the Indian Cricket Team. Pollock has advised Hardik to try and attain more substance and strength over one of the skills and be a good contributor with the other.
“Hardik needs to settle down and choose one of the disciplines (batting or bowling), something that keeps him in the side, and look to contribute on the other as it can be very difficult to contribute with both”, said the man with 421 wickets and 3, 781 runs across 108 Test matches and added, "Pandya is probably a long-term all-round option. I think Virat Kohli really likes his style and attitude towards the game. Looks like he can get both wickets and runs; of course, time will tell everything."
Pollock basically wants Hardik to become a specialist in one skill and become the undroppable part of the side for it. Pollock himself was a world-class bowler first and then a good contributor with the bat.
So far, from what has been seen of young Hardik, he looks like someone who has raw but genuine batting skills. Maybe, the future for him in Indian Cricket lies in becoming a solid no.6 who can add support to the main bowling attack. He has a Test hundred in Pallekele and a 93 in Cape Town.
Pollock further stressed on the point by saying, “If he settles down and gets a good run, there is no reason why he can’t become a wonderful all-rounder for India,”
