Star India batter Virat Kohli was felicitated by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) after the second day’s play in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday (January 31).
Kohli was honoured for playing 100 Test matches for India, which he achieved against Sri Lanka in March 2022 in Mohali.
The 36-year-old received a shawl and a special memento from DDCA president Rohan Jaitley in appreciation of his achievement.
In a heartwarming moment, Kohli took blessings from his childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, by touching his feet. He then hugged Sharma, who was visibly proud to see his ward being felicitated for completing 100 Test matches.
It is worth mentioning here that Kohli is one of only three players from Delhi to have played 100 or more Tests for India, besides Ishant Sharma (105) and Virender Sehwag (104).
Virat Kohli’s return to the Ranji Trophy has been inspired by BCCI’s latest diktat that makes it mandatory for centrally contracted players to feature in domestic cricket when not on national duty. The ongoing Delhi vs Railways match marks his first in Ranji after almost 13 years.
However, Kohli failed to make a mark in his comeback domestic match, scoring only 6 runs off 15 balls. He was knocked over by Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan.
