R Ashwin highlights major batting flaw among domestic batters; lauds BCCI for using DRS in Duleep Trophy

Ashwin believes the use of DRS in domestic cricket could prove to be helpful for batters.

Ravichandran Ashwin | GettyVeteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Saturday (September 7) lauded the BCCI for utilizing the Decision Review System (DRS) in domestic cricket.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ashwin suggested that the use of DRS could prove to be helpful for batters to improve their technique in the long run should they make their way to international cricket.

Citing the example of Ricky Bhui’s dismissal against Manav Suthar in the ongoing Duleep Trophy match between India D and India C, Ashwin pointed out a major technical flaw from the batter which could have been written off had the DRS not been in effect.

“DRS for domestic cricket is not just for the right decisions to be made. Ricky Bhuvi’s dismissal last evening against Manav Suthar is a classic case of a batter who will get away with this technique 10/10 times in FC cricket,” Ashwin tweeted.

“This was not a faulty technique pre DRS but now it is. Back in the day batters were given not out just because they managed to get on the front foot. Now, keeping your bat behind the pad can be fatal, imagine someone making the climb to international cricket without getting this experience Ricky got yesterday,” he added.

“He could very well take an entire test series to understand what he needs to work on and his career could well be over. This is a fab experience for more than just one reason,” he further stated.

Coming to the match, India C is in the driver’s seat against India D with 91 runs needed to win with eight wickets in hand.

In the other fixture, India A is trailing India B by 98 runs with two wickets to spare in the first innings. Invited to bat first, India B had racked up 321 on the board on the back of Musheer Khan’s stunning century (181) and Navdeep Saini’s fighting 56.
