Rishabh Pant made his much-awaited return to red-ball cricket as he turned up for India B in the Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India A at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Thursday (September 5).

During the IPL 2024 season, Pant made his return to competitive action after recovering from the horrific injuries that he sustained in a car accident in December 2022. The southpaw was also part of India’s T20 World Cup 2020-winning campaign.

Having proved his fitness in the shorter formats, Rishabh finally got a chance to make his comeback to red-ball cricket through the Duleep Trophy.

The swashbuckling left-hander opened up his account with a first-ball boundary off fast bowler Avesh Khan. However, Pant’s stay at the crease was shortlived as he was dismissed by Akash Deep for 10-ball 7.

Rishabh Pant mistimed shot off a length delivery and India A skipper Shubman Gill, who was stationed at mid-off, plucked a brilliant catch to dismiss the wicketkeeper-batter.

Gill ran backwards to get himself in the right position but tumbled down as he completed the grab. The Indian batter was seen wincing in pain after taking the catch, which raised concerns about a possible injury.
